It’s all in the hands of Ivan Gazidis. These will be decisive months for the future of Milan, who are heading towards the umpteenth revolution, corporate as well as technical.
As Gazzetta Dello Sport reports this morning (via MilanNews.it), the CEO will be forced to make some important decisions, which will impact the Rossoneri’s direction. The main knot, of course, is the managerial question.
All the roads lead to Ralf Rangnick, as Elliott and Gazidis himself have chosen the German to lead Milan from next season. There have been rumours about Julian Nagelsmann, but there is no confirmation on the matter.
Rangnick, therefore, is ready for a double role. A final decision on the matter will most likely arrive in the first week of June. As mentioned, though, it’s far from the only thing that Gazidis will have to deal with.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has an expiring contract and a great desire to return to Sweden, per the newspaper. However, he hasn’t closed the door to a renewal and there are ways to convince him, but it will depend on Gazidis: the project has to be strong.
Then there is Paolo Maldini, who has been linked with a departure in the summer. It would be important for the club to keep him, but the will might not be mutual. Maldini will have to speak to Gazidis to understand his role with Rangnick at the club.
Finally, the CEO will also have to deal with some ‘deadlines’ shortly. For example, a meeting with Mino Raiola will be needed to discuss the renewal of Gigio Donnarumma and also start talks about Alessio Romagnoli.
The captain’s contract expires in 2022, while the goalkeeper’s will expire in 2021, but the next few months will be decisive to understand if they will be fixed points for the future.
