CM: Kessie temptation, Ibra worry and Tomori signals – latest team news ahead of Inter-Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

As we get closer and closer to Saturday’s derby against Inter, there are more signs coming regarding the selection choices that Stefano Pioli is likely to make.

According to Calciomercato.com, several new tactical ideas have been tried in recent days at Milanello to try and surprise an Inter team that has amply demonstrated that they deserve to be top of the league, but it is the fitness of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fikayo Tomori that dominates the build up.

Regarding Tomori, from the first day after his knee operation the thoughts of the centre-back were directed solely to making it back for the Milan derby. Today he worked partially with the squad and then broke away before the mixed-squad match with the Primavera to perform a personalised work routine on the low pitch of Milanello. The good news is that his knee responded well to the increase in work, but the next 48 hours will be key.

There is no great optimism about Ibrahimovic at the moment because he still has an Achilles tendon problem and he worked on his own in the gym today. Tomorrow will be a key day as tactical work is scheduled, so everyone who has a good chance of playing will be involved.

Olivier Giroud is ready and is battling for a starting shirt, while Franck Kessie returned from AFCON and trained for the first time the group. He could play as an attacking midfielder with Brahim Diaz initially on the bench. Ante Rebic worked alone, but his condition is not a concern.
