Milan’s newly-appointed Sporting Director Massimiliano Mirabelli revealed that Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola is the last obstacle in getting the Italian goalkeeper to pen a contract extension with the club.
In an interview with Sky Sport Italia on Sunday, the optimistic club executive was cheerful of a freshly-minted contract for the teenaged talisman.
“All we needed to do was look Donnarumma in the eyes to see if he wants to stay at Milan, and we could see that he wants to,” Mirabelli said of the young star, before sheepishly adding: “But now we have also got to talk with his agent.”
“We wanted to talk with him to understand how much the lad is attached to these colours. Milan are still an attractive club, considering that together with Real Madrid we are the club with the most titles in world football.
“Now, after we have seen what his intentions are, we will speak with his agent, but that is the most difficult part.
“I want Donnarumma to write history with this club and we agree on everything with Montella. Renewing both of their contracts is important.”
Mirabelli’s comments came immediately after a disappointing result against the provincial side Empoli, wherein Milan disgracefully lost 2-1 at the San Siro.
These results do not sit well with the notoriously hawkish agent, with Raiola demanding his client play in European competition, something Milan have failed to qualify for in the past 3 seasons.
A previous interview with Raiola indicated that both agent and player were waiting to see what the future holds for a Milan under Chinese hands.
Only time will tell whether Donnarumma stays to play in a newly-rejuvenated Milan team, or if he decides to pursue lucrative offers elsewhere.
