Pioli’s reaction to first seeing two Milan stars in training was ‘holy s**t’

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has revealed how he first reacted to seeing Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leao in training when he joined the club, according to a report.

The Rossoneri coach gave an interview to Milan TV (via Milan News) on Tuesday after delivering the Scudetto on Sunday.

He discussed a range of topics which also included his reaction to first seeing Tonali and Leao in training, two players that have been pivotal to the Rossoneri’s success this season.

“It’s the eye of a coach. At the first training session I saw them, I turned to my collaborators and said to them: ‘Holy s**t’,” Pioli said.

“Something clicked in them, it happens with young, talented, willing players. And I found really intelligent players, not touchy.

“I’m a pain but they were good at understanding the goal. They changed after the holiday. They probably needed it to understand a lot of things.”

Tonali popped up with some very important goals for the team in the past few games that helped them through a set of fixtures that many thought could prove too much.

Leao has also been vital all season and on the final day when Milan needed just a point away at Sassuolo to win Serie A, he provided three assists for Olivier Giroud and Franck Kessie to secure a 3-0 win.
