Sassuolo 0-2 Milan: Player Ratings

By Fred Ilondo -

In a desperate need of a win to save their season, Milan delivered a convincing response to their poor form with a comfortable 2-0 win at Sassuolo.

Alessio Romagnoli and Suso scored either side of the half way mark as the Rossoneri recorded a vital win at the Mapei Stadium.

Starting XI

Gianluigi Donnarumma (6.5): Once again reminded the fans why he is one of the most valuable players on the team. Was very reactive and concentrated. Made some mistakes with his distribution but thankfully they were minor.

Christian Zapata (6): Surprisingly good, made a few mistakes in the first half that could have led to a goal but still managed to stay focused on the game and did not give any space to Sassuolo player.

Leonardo Bonucci (6.5): His best performance this season so far. proved that the club should not give up on him and that with time he can deliver the performances expected from him. Stole the ball multiple times from the opponents and always managed to cover for his teammates in defense.

Alessio Romagnoli (7): The first player to put his name on the score sheet tonight, but that is not the reason his performance was flawless, his placement in the defense were impeccable. was never out of the game and looked confident in his defending.

Davide calabria (N/A): Did not play much due to an early injury that forced him out of the game.

Franck Kessie (6.5): A convincing performance that has been missing in the past few games. was imposing in the midfield and made his presence felt throughout the game.

Ricardo Montolivo (6): Was better than usual, did exactly what was asked from him. blocked a lot of balls and was involved in the build-up most of the game.

Fabio Borini (6.5): Another surprising performance. Assisted the second goal, was a constant danger for this opponent and was extremely helpful in the defensive phase.

Hakan Calhanoglu (5.5): Despite assisting the first goal, he was one of the worst part of the game. lost a lot of balls, looked lost in the midfield most of the time, however, every time his technical skills were needed, he delivered.

Suso (7, MOTM): Once again Milan’s best player. Did what he does best, dribble, find space for his teammates and shoot with his left foot. Scored the second goal of the game to grant a comfortable win to his team.

Nikola Kalinic (5): Not his best game, had a few good chances that he could not convert. He could have looked better if his teammates did not look this good on the pitch but he was definitely the weakest player on the pitch.

Substitutions

Ignazio Abate (5.5): Came on early in the game to replace an injured Calabria, he did exactly what was expected from him and he did it pretty well. Not his best performance either, however, it was enough to help his team bring the three points home.

Manuel Locatelli (6): His fresh legs, great tackles, and accurate passes were a great addition when he add to step in to help the team in the second half.

Lucas Antonelli (N/A): Did not have much to do as he came on really late in the game.

  1. Great job as always, but a little surprised at a couple of ratings:
Borini… how are you surprised? he has had 4 or 5 games as a wingback and has done really well, in fact this website thought he was the best player on the pitch for Milan…
Montolivo delivered the killer ball for Suso’s goal… probably bares mentioning seeing as it was one of the most beautiful passes out of midfield this season!
Kalinic – bang on – probably one of the worst players of the team, especially if you factor in how much money is wasted on him…
