Tuttosport: Five Milan players impressed in draw vs. Nice – from Maignan to Tonali

By Isak Möller -

Milan perhaps didn’t have the best of games last night but they managed to grind out a 1-1 draw against Nice, who are in much better shape. In addition to some tactical positives, a few players stood out.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), five players in particular impressed on the pitch. Starting from the back, Mike Maignan wasn’t forced to many saves but he made himself heard, leading his team in the 45 mins he played.

Alessio Romagnoli, the captain of the team, was solid throughout the game and had a fantastic tackle that denied a certain goal. On his right, Davide Calabria was able to neutralise Justin Kluivert, making his first appearance of the pre-season.

Further up the pitch, Sandro Tonali struggled at the start but grew into the game and was an important director in the second half. Then, of course, we have Olivier Giroud who came on and scored straight away. It’s clear he will be very useful.

  1. I don’t think you watched the game. Milan seemed lost and confused against Nice, the midfield was empty proof that Tonali and Pobega were still young and inexperienced, Calabria and Teo Hernandez seemed to be playing football for the first time, Diaz Krunic and Salamankers did not know what to do with the ball, the only thing is Leao was concrete. Maignan was sluggish and slow on goal, and in the continuation of the season Milan will feel how much Donnarumma is missing
