Longo: Leao to stay but Milan consider four players sellable – the situation

By Isak Möller -

The summer mercato is fast approaching and in addition to reinforcing the team, AC Milan are also expected to part ways with quite a few players. Although Rafael Leao is set to stay, per a report, there are a few others that could leave.

Despite finishing in second place, it has been a rather disappointing season for the Rossoneri and the management is eager to reinforce the team this summer. To help fund this, there will also be some sales and in addition to the obvious ones, there are a few more that could be sold.

According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Milan are currently evaluating the situations of Yacine Adli and Ismael Bennacer. The latter has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia and has a release clause of €50m, while the Frenchman has redeemed himself slightly this season and could have a few suitors.

Milan also want to understand the wishes of Mike Maignan and Fikayo Tomori, who are considered sellable by the club. As for Rafael Leao, on the other hand, he has expressed a desire to remain for at least another season and the Rossoneri want to keep him.

In short, a lot could happen this summer and everything will depend on the offers that are sent to Casa Milan.

  1. Maignan , Tomori , Bennacer and maybe Theo (if he doesn’t want to prolong his contract) are definitely for sale in my opinion.
We can replace them very good in this way :
Maignan – Di Gregorio, Carnesecchi, Caprille
    Tomori – Buongiorno, Calafiori
    Bennacer – Wieffer
    Theo – Dorgu.
We remain with a lot of cash as well and we can take another strong central midfielder like Y. Fofana or K.Thuram and a centre back like Brassier or Lacroix , a good striker and a good right back. We will be stronger and complete team I’m convinced by this.
Ps. I would sell Loftus-Cheek as well 😆. I don’t like this player at all. He is slow, inconsistent.

    1. No.matter how much i love him I would sell Leao as well. That will bring a lot of money. I am starting to think that with his body language he will never be a consistant play. Cash out while you can, invest that money on something you can rely on every game

    2. Selling Theo isn’t just a case of selling Theo, you are splitting up one of the best partnerships in world football…that is priceless. It is evident when neither play just how reliant we are upon them, they are at least 60% of our attacking output

  2. Theo and Leao should be unsellable…Tomori and Maignan are sellable but only if a proper replacement is lined up. If we sell Mike and get Carneschi for example and Tomori goes and in comes Buongiorno or Calafiori…this is a plan.

However we all suspect a nobody who once had a good game against nobody in a nothing league.l will come.

Milan should aim to recruit the best young Italian talent

    1. That is my fear of this club under this management. Build a foundation of players (in this case Leao, Theo, Tomori, Bennacer, Kalulu, that won the scudetto) , life span of 3-4 season, sell, buy new low profile/young players, build up a foundation, sell after 3-4 seasons

  3. Instead of a lot happening, why don’t the management consolidate, as clearly if they have to reset each time then they are admitting that they have got it wrong last summer and ultimately this season.

Consolidate, after last night shambles surely Torino owe us Buongiorno (gave a great account of himself, just doubts about playing in a back 4)

RDZ or Conceicao, no one else should be in the frame.

A fresh new spine, Buongiorno, CDM ( a number of good options out there) and JZirkzee or Sesko (these two are ideal for us as they can play the line, hold the ball up, run the channels and bring the best out of our wingers (we do have world class wingers).

We have had a bad season and finished second at a canter with games to spare, is this us or because Juventus, Napoli, Roma, Lazio and Atlanta have been too inconsistent in seria A.

Anywho Season 24/25, will be here before we know, hope springs eternal, I think Chuck and Tijjani will be star performers next season!!

  4. What a shambles of a team!!!!
What a shambles of a coach!!!
What a shambles of a management!!!

Pioli, furlani, moncada, ibrahimovic and all the other smart ones — OUT.
Maldini/Massara ….. please come back. Milan needs you very badly ….

  5. When Furlani said no player is off limit and then sold Tonali, i already expect this is gonna happen.

Now i’m curious if the new manager can bring Milan to scudetto or at least top 2 without players like Theo, Leao, Mike, Tomori, Bennacer, Kjaer, and Giroud.

  6. Sell Mike np sell adli if needed but Theo and tomori would not do so. Tomori needs a good coach that’s it. Same goes for the whole team. They need to pass fast with courage and believe not this stupid slow and clueless shit that pioli is teaching

    1. It’s almost like Tomori needs guidance from let’s say the greatest defender the game has ever produced, to watch him every day in training and then advise and guide him….

I mean if only we had that 🙄

  7. I don’t understand how fans here can say sell leao so easily.
He might not be consistent this season but he is still our main threat from the left this season.
His partnership with Theo is still our best attack.
Replacing him won’t be as easy as replacing messias/saelemaker with pulisic/chuku.
And hopefully the new coach can bring the best out of him

    1. Mate if we lose Leao and Theo the drop off will be catastrophic. Only an idiot who spends more time on fifa or football manager where you can move players around willy nilly with no real consequence will be pro the sale of those two. They are one of the best partnerships in world football along with KDB and Haaland or Vini and Bellingham

    2. Because some people have a knee-jerk reaction, for them a player plays a bad game= this player is trash and needs to go. It doesn’t matter if he has more than 25G+A for 3 seasons now, one bad game and all is forgotten. And some seem to think they can just easily put Pulisic as LW, Chuk as RW and voilà, problem solved.

  8. I think evaluations are rightly due. I hope milan have the next coach picked out so he can get to Milanello as quickly as possible and evaluate the players early into the mercato.

A lot of players have been inconsistent all season. I’m inclined to say it’s mostly due to to the coach and tactics, but players have to be held accountable also.

We have seen much criticized players, like Tomori, Bennacer, Thiaw, Kalulu play significantly better. So the reason for drop off has to be identified and fixed.

Is it just tactics? Is it that players stopped giving a damn? Is it a psychological drop off? Is it lack of proper defensive mid coverage and defensive tactics/assignments?

Truth is that it’s probably a combination of all of the above. But it needs to be addressed as early into the summer as possible with an intelligent coach.

  9. jery & minions respons:

(when talk about trophy) we are profitable, healthy, sustainable, ambitious, market explode bla bla..

(when talk upgrade squad) we are so poor, even to extend players contract we have to sell 1 of our core player & to buy players maybe we’ll sell more
