GdS: All the question marks surrounding Milan’s attacking department

By Oliver Fisher -

The future of AC Milan’s attacking department seems to be up in the air with a few players not certain of staying for next season, a report claims.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Olivier Giroud is currently the only certainty in terms of being at Milan next season as he will soon renew his contract for another season, but then there are a number of question marks.

Then there is Rafael Leao, who has sent the club positive signals over a renewal, but now Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are aiming to turn that positivity into a signature and to close the matter in the next 10-15 days.

In June Brahim Diaz’s two-year loan will end and there is a €22m option to buy in Milan’s favour plus a €26-27m buy-back for Real Madrid. Diaz feels part of the project, he is grateful to the club and would gladly stay at Milanello to continue his journey.

The Rossoneri management intend to ask the reigning European champions for a discount, while in Spain they are considering bringing him back to sell for a capital gain.

Charles De Ketelaere has made 31 appearances for Milan this season since his move from Club Brugge but has often seemed lost. However, the amount invested and the fact he is still in an adaptation period means he should stay.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suggested that he wants to keep playing but the club will reflect and make a decision at the end of the season, while the same applies to Divock Origi who arrived in the summer to replace Giroud but has disappointed with his return of two goals.

Ante Rebic has also had a poor season and the fact he has a contract until 2025 – combined with a €3.5m net salary – is pushing Milan towards putting him on the market in June.

  1. Milan should get Mateo Retegui and Tommaso Baldanzi first. That would fix a lot of problems in attack and they are not expensive either. As for the rest it depends if Leao stays or goes. If Leao stays, than you can let Rebic and Diaz go(Sala can be Leao back up then). But if he leaves you gonna need one of Rebic or Diaz to play on the LW. As for Origi, he needs to go no matter what 4mil salary for nothing. Will preaty much cover both Retegui and Baldanzi sallary with that money.

    1. Lol cheap😂😂😂😂
He scored one goal for Italy on his debut. He’s probably gonna command about 40-60mil now bro. Everyone’s looking for firepower and his demand has skyrocketed whether sensibly or not.

      1. He is valued at 8mil at the moment bro. It will go up for sure but not that much. He dosen’t play in a top league in Europe. I think i read here that he also has a release clause of 18mil in his contract so not expensive again (if true). We can get both Retegui and Tommaso for around 40mil.

    1. You can accuse anyone of anything, but in the end without a proper explanation those accusations are just empty words.

  2. Milan should just renewed R Leao already, buy Baldanzi to compete with Adli to deputy Bennacer,Primavera star Traore should deputies Leao and Retegui should replace Rebic and Origi should given another year to prove himself while Zlatan should be converted into Milan staff and believe you me Milan will be unstoppable in the foreseeable years.

    1. In case of the Leao sale – why whould Milan have to keep Rebić, Messias, Saelemaekers or Origi? All of them are good for sale + the money from Leao sale would bring about 80 mil – meaning that AC could afford to buy many players. I would even go as far as selling Kjaer, Adli, Ballo-Touré, Gabbia and sending Bakayoko back to Chelsea.

All of this would give Milan a huge amount of money by sales and salary saving and we could afford the following players:

Striker – J.Davids, Hojlund or Retegui (only one of them)
Right wing – Zaniolo (wants AC move)
      Left wing Okafor
Attacking midfield – Baldanzi (wants AC move)
Def midfielder – Frattesi (was offered last season to Milan)
      Central defender – Scalvini
Left Defender – Grimaldo (will be free agent during summer)

  3. Can’t wrap my head around why Origi was brought in the first place. I’ve never been impressed even when he was at Anfield. Meanwhile, what’s the sense in buying these promising young guys and never giving them a chance even in low pressure games. Only Stefano knows anyway.
