MN: Pioli has a core of nine to build around heading in 2021-22 season – the names

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has a group of untouchable players that he is aiming to start the 2021-22 season with full trust in.

According to MilanNews, there are a number of members of the current squad that Pioli considers to be the backbone of his team. Of course the old saying ‘every player is important’ rings true, especially with three competitions to come, but there is nonetheless a core.

Theo Hernandez, Fikayo Tomori, Simon Kjaer, Davide Calabria, Franck Kessie, Ante Rebic, Zlatan Ibrahimovic plus the newly-signed Mike Maignan are irreplaceable and immovable when fit, and for the time being Alexis Saelemaekers can be added to the list as he is a flexible and intelligent player.

Pending market developments, Pioli’s team looks forward to next season with confidence thanks to a great understanding between the aforementioned members. The squad will need to be strengthened not only in quantity but above all in quality and that is why young, talented players ready to make an impact will be targeted.

Olivier Giroud and Hakim Ziyech are targets while Brahim Diaz and Sandro Tonali are young players that the management hope to keep, but the core remains.
