Preview: Serie A Round 17 – AC Milan vs. Atalanta

By Anthony Torgrude -

After a disheartening loss to Roma on Monday, the Rossoneri attempt to bounce back in the win column against Atalanta.

Milan reaches the half way point of December no longer tied for second place, but firmly in third as Roma took a three point lead in the table.

Luckily for Milan fans, Roma will face Juventus and with a win over Atalanta, Milan could be once again tied for second on points.

Atalanta have been dubbed a fairy tale this season with impressive wins over Napoli, Inter, Roma, and Genoa. They find themselves just short of a Europa League spot and will be no easy task for the Red and Black.

Milan need to get back to winning and return to the Scudetto race like they were just last week. A statement win at the San Siro will cement that return.

THE TEAMS

Kucka has served his suspension and is eligible to play once again. Also Bonaventura and Bacca are both recovered from injury and expected to start as well. With our starting midfield returning to normal, there will undoubtedly be a flare that was missing in the previous match day.

Bertolacci had a quite but decent game in his first of the season since injury and he’s expected to start once again.

Lapadula will have to fight for his place in the starting lineup this evening as Bacca is back in the squad.

As is always written in the stars, Atalanta possess a former Milan striker in Andrea Pentagna and it would only be fitting if he scored a goal so watch for that.

This Atalanta side is full of goal scorers from behind the forwards including Kiesse and Jasmin Kurtic with five, Caldara, and Masiello with three. They continue to show the quality of other aspects in football.

AC Milan Probable XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Abate, Paletta, Romagnoli, Antonelli; Kucka, Bertolacci, Pasalic; Suso, Lapadula, Bonaventura.

Atalanta Probable XI (3-4-1-2): Sportiello; Toloi, Caldara, Masiello; Conti, Kessie, Gagliardini, Spinazzola; Kurtic; Petagna, Gomez.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Returning to the squad this week is Carlos Bacca and with the rise of Gianluca Lapadula many people are wondering if Bacca has the capacity to reclaim his starter role. Expect him to put out his best effort if he gets the chance.

LAST TIME THEY MET

In the previous match up between the two Atalanta were the victors with a 2-1 score line. Luis Adriano slotted from the spot early on for the lead but Milan failed to hold on as a goal just before half time and one more at the top of the hour saw Atalanta sink the Milanese giants at the Atleti Azzurri D’italia.
